Beyerdynamic MMX 330 PRO: how much amplifier do you need?

The Beyerdynamic MMX 330 PRO is 48Ω with a sensitivity of 96.0 dB/mW, which is 109.2 dB/V. To reach 100 dB SPL — genuinely loud, louder than most people listen — it needs 2.5 mW, or 0.35 V across the drivers.

If it is per volt, the real sensitivity is 82.8 dB/mW — 13 dB lower at 48Ω — and everything above understates what these need by that much. The per-milliwatt reading is the one shown, because it is the more common convention on a spec sheet that omits the unit; treat it as an indication rather than a specification.
